Almaty Plemzavod
Agricultural Production
Cooperative

ABOUT COMPANY

Almaty Plemzavod Agricultural Production Cooperative works in three directions:

Dairy production.

2,500 breeding dairy cattle. The milk yield from each cow is about 25 liters per day (the total yield is 37.5 tons per day).

Sheep breeding.

The farm actively maintains, reproduces and improves productive qualities of Merino meat-wool sheep. The total amount is more than 17,000.

Plant growing.

Special attention is paid to this, as high-quality feed is vital for breeding farm animals.

Our company has farmland of 2,000 hectares where  leguminous crops and cereals are grown, in particular.

ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE COMPANY

In 2016, Holstein Friesian heifers were imported from the Czech Republic to the Almaty stud farm. Later, in 2017-18, the same breed was imported from Germany and the Netherlands.

In the autumn of 2016, 130 Australian Suffolk stud rams were purchased, and in 2017, 20 French Ile-de-France stud rams were imported from Belarus.

The milk produced at the enterprise is supplied to major international companies that produce dairy products

DESCRIPTION OF BREEDS

HOLSTEIN FRISIAN BREED

The birthplace of this breed of cows is considered to be Holland, or rather, Friesland — the birthplace of the Frisians. There animal production has long been practiced, so the Frisian cows were hardy and had a good immune system.

In similar climatic conditions — in the North of Germany, on the lands of Schleswig-Holstein — German breeders bred dairy cows that showed high milk yields.

At the beginning of the XVIII century, the cattlemen of these two regions decided to breed a new breed — dairy and meat. So there was a Holstein Frisian cow of black and white color.

Holstein cows have a wide, voluminous udder and slightly developed muscles. The rate of milk flow in these cows is at least 2.5 kg/min and often exceeds 3 kg/min.

ETTI MERINO

(Authors of the breed: Almaty Plemzavod Agricultural Production Cooperative, S. M. Saryev farm, Arai farm)

Work on developing the breed was started in the 1980s in Almaty region. Using Polvars sheep, Sarybulak intra-breed type of Kazakh fine-wool sheep was created, the main difference of which was the large size, big body weight and big amount of wool shorn. But, as it turned out, a big weight is not a sufficient sign of meat animals, so in 2002, German Merinofleischschaf sheep were imported from Germany for breeding.

As a result of many years of work in 2011, a new domestic fine-wool meat breed — Etti Merino was developed and successfully tested.

CHARACTERISTIC OF THE BREED. Sheep are perfectly adapted to the harsh desert conditions throughout the year. Lambs are characterized by a high growth rate; they wean at the age of 4-4. 5 months. Rams reach 35-40kg of body weight (max 50kg).

ZONE OF BREEDING. Meat Merinos animals perfectly tolerate low temperatures of winter pasture and are well adapted to the natural and climatic conditions of Almaty, Zhambyl and South Kazakhstan regions.

LEADING BREEDING FARMS: Etti Merino animals are bred in 16 farms of Almaty region, in total, these enterprises contain 62,768 animals, 44,461 of them sheep.

Leading among them is Almaty Plemzavod Agricultural Production Cooperative, where there are 12 thousand animals, including about 10,000 sheep.

To increase the meat content and reduce the fat tissue, Ile de France French Meat Merino stud rams are used, which were first imported to Almaty Plemzavod Agricultural Production Cooperative.

They are called the best thin-wool meat breed. It is a fast-growing breed of sheep with a well-muscled carcass, which is widely used in France for intensive off-season production of lambs, and for the production of pasture lambs from early spring lambing.
